Dr. David Harris-Birtill
PhD, MPhys (Hons), Lecturer, School of Computer Science, The University of St. Andrews, Scotland
Topic: Deep Learning for Cancer Detection from Mammography to Microscopy
Dr. David Harris-Birtill is a Lecturer in Computer Science, at the University of St. Andrews, UK, where he is Director of the Digital Health Masters programme and leads the Med-Tech team and Human-Computer Interaction research group. He has led projects funded by the Digital Health and Care Institute, Innovate UK, and industrial partners. David leads research projects in the fields of Artificial Intelligence (machine learning) and medical imaging, and lectures on machine learning, signal processing and human-computer interaction. David has a background in Medical Physics, and holds a PhD in Physics from the Institute of Cancer Research; he was also previously a Post-Doctoral Researcher at Imperial College, London. David is the Founder and Director of Beyond Medics, a company established to create medical imaging and sensing technology for patient benefit, where he is currently leading the development of a system that measures people’s vital signs at a distance using video camera foottage.
